YouSports 2025 - A Celebration of Spirit, Sport, and Salesian Values

On 2nd October, Don Bosco Youth Services (INP) hosted the YouSports 2025 at Don Bosco Fatorda. In a vibrant celebration of youth, unity, and sportsmanship, the event brought together 70 enthusiastic participants from across the Konkan Province, competing in a spirit of friendly rivalry and shared joy. The tournament featured mixed teams (boys and girls) engaging in two dynamic sports: Futsal and Throwball.

The day commenced with the participants being introduced to their respective teams, setting a tone of collaboration and camaraderie. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Fr. Ralin, the Chief Guest, whose inspiring message encapsulated the essence of the day. Emphasizing that the gathering was not about competition alone, he reminded everyone that “we are not just opponents on the field but one family, gathered to play, love, and grow together.” His words deeply resonated with the youthful energy present.

Fr. Ralin also imparted the blessing of Mary Help of Christians, officially inaugurating the day with a heartfelt prayer, followed by the ceremonial kickoff.

The Futsal tournament was a showcase of energy, skill, and strategy. The final match witnessed Team Savio overcoming Team Giorgio Pier Frassati with a decisive 3-1 victory. With their cohesive teamwork and relentless spirit, Team Savio emerged as the champions of the day, lifting the trophy amidst loud cheers and applause.

Equally thrilling was the Throwball Championship, where Team Namankura edged past Team Mazzarello in a fiercely contested final. Both teams exhibited remarkable agility, precision, and sportsmanship, making it a match to remember. The highlight was the participation of two FMA Sisters (Sr. Rebecca Thomas and Sr. Sunita Shah) , who joined the young players on the court. Their presence added a unique spiritual dimension to the game, reminding the youth that faith and fun can go hand in hand.

The finals were honoured by the presence of Dr. Fr. Francis Xavier sdb, a passionate football enthusiast, who inaugurated the final matches of both tournaments. His excitement and support were palpable as he encouraged the youth throughout the day.

He also presided over the prize distribution ceremony, congratulating the winners and applauding every participant for their sportsmanship, dedication, and enthusiasm.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Fr. Austin, who expressed deep gratitude to all organizers, volunteers, and participants for making the event a grand success. As the sun set, all gathered in reflection, singing a hymn dedicated to Don Bosco, ending the day in the true Salesian spirit.

YouSports 2025 was more than just a sporting event; it was a vibrant expression of the values Don Bosco held dear-discipline, teamwork, joy, and resilience. It served as a powerful reminder that sport can be a means of holistic youth development, building character while forging lasting bonds.

The day beautifully echoed one of Don Bosco’s most cherished exhortations: “Run, Jump, Play, but do not Sin!”
