Faith Olympics: An Evening of Faith, Fun, and Fellowship
On 17th August, the Don Bosco Animation Center in Benaulim was abuzz with energy and enthusiasm as over 20 youth gathered for the “Faith Olympics”. Organized by the Don Bosco Youth Paschers Movement, this vibrant evening saw games, action songs, meaningful interactions, and group activities all geared toward helping young people grow in their relationship with Christ.
The event began with the participants divided into four teams. Icebreakers helped the youth warm up to each other, setting the tone for a fun and collaborative experience. The opening ceremony featured a symbolic candle-lighting ritual, where a lit candle was passed from team to team. This gesture, reminiscent of the Olympic torch, was inaugurated by Fr Patrick, highlighting how we are called to shine our light and pass on the flame of faith to others.
A variety of engaging games and team-based activities followed, each crafted to incorporate elements of Christian faith. One standout game was the “Tower of Babel”, where each group had to construct a balloon tower without speaking, symbolizing the importance of unity and communication. Participants also took part in a “parable role play,” where they creatively enacted parables in modern-day scenarios, bringing biblical teachings to life.
Another highlight of the event was the five-station Bible challenge. Teams moved between stations that tested their scriptural knowledge through exciting tasks such as unscrambling books of the Bible, listing miracles within a minute, identifying biblical quotes, decoding Bible-related emojis, and guessing characters from Scripture. The final group activity of the day was a quiz.
The evening also featured an interactive session by Fr Austin Fernandes, who spoke on faith in action. Finally, as a reflective activity, each participant wrote down positive qualities about their teammates - a small but touching takeaway that helped reinforce a sense of community.
Then came the time to announce the victors of the “Faith Olympics”, celebrating their efforts and teamwork. As a token of appreciation, all participants were given a bookmark featuring the verse from Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God”.
Ronan Mendes served as the emcee for the evening, while Vaylon Fernandes delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who made the event possible. Volunteers who contributed their time and energy included Rochelle, Annalie, Chelsea, Aden, Allieah, Aaron, Vaylon, Ronan, Selwin, Jival, and Esther.
The event concluded with the official launch of the Don Bosco Youth Paschers flag, followed by spirited action songs. As the evening drew to a close, participants walked away with strengthened faith, new friendships, and cherished memories
