SYM Fest 24: "Agents of Change - Anchored in Hope" Inspires South Asian Youth
The Salesian Province of Chennai and Don Bosco Youth Animation South Asia jointly hosted the vibrant SYM Fest 24 at Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur, Chennai from December 29, 2024 to January 1, 2025 under the theme “Agents of Change – Anchored in Hope.” The four-day celebration brought together over 1,600 participants and 200 dedicated animators from across the Salesian Provinces of South Asia, showcasing the dynamic energy and faith of the Salesian Youth Movement.
The event was a profound mix of inspiration, reflection, and celebration, aimed at fostering a sense of unity, cultural exchange, and renewed hope among the youth.
Day 1: A Grand Opening
The festival began with an electrifying opening ceremony, masterfully animated by the SYM Tiruchy Province. Fr. Don Bosco Loudusamy, Provincial of Chennai, presided over the inaugural Eucharist, invoking God’s blessings on the participants. The day’s activities included creative competitions such as Tableau, theme-based dances, rangoli, and canvas painting, setting the tone for an engaging and uplifting event.
Day 2: Thought-Provoking Sessions and Spiritual Renewal
Day two offered enriching sessions designed to inspire and challenge young minds.
Fr. Ernest Rosario, SDB, explored the influence of social media in his session titled “Social Media: The Magic, the Logic, and the Tragedy.”
Fr. Patrick Antonyraj, SDB, delved into the evolution of the Salesian Youth Movement, reflecting on its past, present, and future.
Fr. John Parankimalil captivated the audience with his talk, “My Dream for My Country,” emphasizing the role of faith and hope in nation-building.
The day concluded with a vibrant praise and worship session led by youth from various provinces, during the Praise and Worship the Youth attending SYMfest made their heartfelt Confession, culminating in a Eucharistic celebration by Most Rev. Dr. Ambrose Pitchaimuthu, Bishop of Vellore. A Christmas Cantata retelling the Nativity in modern times added a festive touch to the evening.
Day 3: Cultural Exchange and Unity
The third day was marked by a spirit of collaboration and creativity. Frs. Patrick Lepcha, SDB, and John Christy, SDB, inspired participants to chart a vision for SYM’s future in India. Activities like reel-making competitions showcased the creative talents of the youth.
The Cultural Exchange featuring regional cuisines and the Cultural Rally featuring traditional attire fostered deeper connections, as participants celebrated diversity and unity.
The day ended with a solemn Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Clive Telles, SDB, Provincial of Panjim, and an inspiring homily by Fr. Agilan Sarprasadam, SDB, Provincial of Tiruchy. Day 4: A Heartfelt Farewell
The final day of SYM Fest 24 was both emotional and celebratory. The concluding Eucharist presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Lawrence Pius, DD, Bishop of Dharmapuri, offered a fitting farewell to the unforgettable event.
Participants from the Province of Panjim actively engaged in all activities exchanged ideas, and secured third place in the canvas painting competition.
Noah Rodrigues, Griselle Afonso and Leha Fernandes were honoured for their contribution towards SYM INP. Fr. Provincial’s presence at the venue lifted the spirits of the young at SYMfest.
A Legacy of Hope and Unity: SYM Fest 24 stands as a testament to the spirit of Don Bosco’s legacy, empowering young people to be agents of change anchored in hope. The event strengthened bonds, inspired faith, and celebrated the vibrant unity of the Salesian Youth Movement.
